Anyone have the feeling the current Obama adminstration has some eerie similarities with the TV show The West Wing?
I am not even talking about the politics or viewpoints.
I am talking about the uncanny likeness of certain important officials in the current adminstation with the characters in The West Wing.
Tim Geithner, Treasury Secretary, when he talks and make announcements, it is exactly as if Josh Lyman were doing it in an episode of West Wing. I am convinced Secretary Geithner's personality is really close to Josh Lyman's if he were real. Take a real good look at Secretary Geithner's eyes and lips, pay attention to his tone of voice, his facial expressions, when he is tense or relaxed, and just in general his demeanor when he is making speeches, you see 'Josh Lyman' all the time. It makes you think a day with Tim Geithner without the news cameras must be like an 'episode day' with Josh Lyman in front of the West Wing TV cameras. If Tim Geithner is less tense in front of cameras, and more importantly, were an actor, I believe his personality would fit perfectly for the role of Josh Lyman.
And if Josh Lyman were a real person and made Treasury Secretary (not that it would be likely, because in the 'alternative reality' of the West Wing TV show, Josh is a law graduate) at a difficult economic time just like now, he would have sounded and acted exactly like Secretary Geithner in speeches. I bet their fiscal policies would be similar too, with similar dosages of tough choices and incentives.
And then who could deny the unbelieveable coincidence that another economy heavyweight in the government, FED chairman Ben Bernanke and West Wing character Toby Ziegler looks so alike? Same bald, same beard, same droopy eyes. And note that The West Wing aired first in 1999, Bernanke wasn't FED chairman until 2006. Was it the prophetic powers of The West Wing that the major characters in it is now the major characters to handle the economy, or were other cosmic forces at work?
I still remember during the early days of Obama taking office, when I switched on the news, all I see was the surreality of FED chairman 'Toby Ziegler' explanation things in Congress, and then it was the time for the news to show Treasury Secretary 'Josh Lyman' announcing the government's plans to stabilize the economy. It was somewhat reassuring, as I quite liked the characters Joshua Lyman and Toby Ziegler when watching The West Wing.
I still can't see any government official that is like C. J. Cregg, another major character in The West Wing, though. If anyone has any thoughts, I would like to hear it.
